Masks : A Useful Skin Treatment

Masks are one of the oldest beautifying treatment. Put on a preparation, leave it ten to twenty minutes, then wash it off. There are many different types of masks-having a nourishing, healing, cleansing and an astringent action. These masks whip up the circulation and temporarily iron out wrinkles. Remember, these masks cannot perform miracles, but they do freshen the skin and leave it soft and glowing. They are a useful addition to your regular skin care and should be enjoyed. One of the most important things to remember while using a mask is is to relax.


Here are a few simple home-made face masks :

- Milk Mask

This is one of the simplest and cheapest mask. Damp some cotton wool with milk and rub it on the face.


- Cleansing Mask

Mix the following ingredients into a paste, apply and leave it for 15 minutes.

1 tablespoon powdered brewer’s yest
½ tablespoon yoghurt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon orange juice, and
1 tablespoon olive oil

This mask is suitable for all types of skin.

- Buttermilk mask

Heat a cup of buttermilk and put into it three tablespoons of alderflower blossoms, Simmer on a very low heat for about 30 minutes, take it off the heat, leave it to a cool, and use as a face mask. It helps to clean large pores. Both the ingredients used in this mask are known for their bleaching and cleansing properties.

- Meal Masks

Apply a paste of barley meal, pea- flower and rose waterand leave it on for several hours in order to make the skin soft and supple.

Another mask is to mix into a paste one tablespoon each of finely ground oatmeal and milk, with a few drops of almond oil. Apply and leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse off.

- Paw-paw Mask

The paw-paw mask is also known as the papaya mask. Mash two tablespoons of ripe paw-paw flesh and spread over a clean face. Rinse off after 10 to 15 minutes with warm water. After a few days, you will find a remarkable improvement, the skin begins to glow with health.

- Carrot and Turnip mask

Boil the carrot and turnip and make them into a paste. Apply for 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off with milk. This mask leaves the skin feeling fresh and clean. Carrots are rich in Vitamin A and turnips are marvelous cleansers.
